Mrs. Roach is kind and fun! I am happy to get to work with her. She makes reading and spelling fun and makes me laugh.
~Bransen, 8th-grade student
Maddy has been an incredible tutor for my 14-year-old son with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. She cares personally about his interests and meets him exactly where he is while encouraging and providing skills for him to excel in reading and spelling. SInce working with Maddy, my son's confidence has grown tremendously. Maddy has made a huge impact on my son which we are forever grateful.
~Kristine Fernando, parent
Maddy is one of the best teachers I have ever worked with. She is a teacher with a huge heart, who listens to what parents have to say and empowers her students with encouragement and knowledge. She has been my colleague for over 5 years and working with her has been not only a pleasure but a complete honor. Her ability to understand the intricate, complex needs of students who learn differently sets her apart from so many ordinary teachers. She is patient, kind and most of all, she is CERTIFIED in OG. I cannot emphasize enough how critical it is for every parent to make sure that their child's teacher/tutor has credentials and Maddy does! I highly recommend Maddy for her professionalism, her heart, and her passion for teaching.

What makes Maddy a good teacher is her experience working with students all across the dyslexia spectrum and her passion for her work. She stays up on current research and teaching techniques. Over the years, we attended many conferences including 2019's IDA conference held right here in Portland where we heard from the leading researchers in our field. Because she has taught reading using the Barton Reading and Spelling program, the Orton-Gillingham methodology, as well as morphology courses, Maddy is able to take the best parts of all her training and fine-tune a program specific to each of her students.
All of these are necessary components of a good teacher; however, what makes Maddy a great teacher is the relationships she builds with families and her students. She sets expectations high and holds them accountable; each year I watched as her students strived to meet these goals. Her students appreciate her candidness about their personal data and respect her more for sharing the information with them so they can better understand their own progress in their reading journey.
Maddy is an exceptional teacher, role model, and friend. Count yourself lucky if you have Maddy in your corner fighting for your kid.
